ASCP Integration with OPM

Oracle Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) includes the following applications:
  • Oracle Advanced Supply Chain Planning (ASCP)
  • Oracle Global Order Promising
  • Oracle Inventory Optimization
  • Oracle Demand Planning
  • Oracle Collaborative Planning
  • Oracle Manufacturing Scheduler
  • Oracle Strategic Network Optimization (SNO)
  • Oracle Production Scheduling (PS)
Oracle Process Manufacturing (OPM) integrates with all of the APS applications. OPM users can use Global Order Promising, Inventory Optimization, and Demand Planning by following the same steps as discrete manufacturing users. This topic focuses on using OPM with ASCP. For more information about the Advanced Planning and Scheduling suite of applications, refer to the Oracle Advanced Planning and Scheduling Implementation and User's Guide.
The integration of OPM with ASCP helps in increasing the planning efficiency, which gives you a competitive edge. The integration consists of the following features:
  • Constraint-based planning, which ensures that the plan is feasible and acknowledges all of your constraints.
  • Performance management enabled through the integration of ASCP with Daily Business Intelligence (DBI) and Oracle Workflow. This lets you:
    • Easily and quickly evaluate a plan based on its impact to target Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • Manage by exception – receive notifications when corrective actions are required
  • The ability to collect data from multiple instances.
This chapter covers the following topics:

ASCP To OPM Flow

The flow between ASCP and OPM is as follows:
  1. Static and dynamic production planning data transfers from OPM to ASCP.
  2. ASCP makes selected suggestion based on the data to meet the demands.
  3. Through OPM you can reschedule, add, and cancel batches and firmed planned orders.

Advantages of Using ASCP

Oracle Advanced Supply Chain Planning (ASCP) planning and scheduling engine determines material requirements and schedules supplies to satisfy dynamic demand. In this process, ASCP supports several advanced planning and scheduling functionality such as advanced multilevel pegging, flexible replenishment hierarchy, and online planning
ASCP with OPM offers you the following advantages:

Optimization

You can optimize your plans to financial and other enterprise strategic objectives. Since you can name and save your plans, you can run several plans optimized to different sets of objectives, then employ the Planner Workbench graphical user interface to quickly compare Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and action messages associated with alternative plans.

Penalty Costs

ASCP also has some built-in optimization objectives such as weighing the penalty costs of late orders against expedited production and delivery costs. You can affect the solution by entering penalty factors, applied as a percent of cost. The optimization process attempts to drive costs out of the solution.

Mapping OPM Data to ASCP

Using ASCP, there are considerations on how you set up the data listed below:
  • Organizations
  • Items
  • Formulas and Routings
  • Resources
  • Production and Sales Orders, Forecasts, and Onhand Inventory
  • Production Definitions

Static Data

Static data are those data records that will not change as a result of
Capacity Planner scheduling (records that are relatively stable). Static
data to export are listed below.
  1. Items Resources Organizations
  2. Routings Operations Shop Days
  3. Formulas and Effectivities Calendars Activities
Dynamic Data

Dynamic data is that type that you may want to consider changing as a
result of viewing the capacity load displays. These include the data listed
below.
  1. Production Schedule (Scheduled Batches)
  2. Firm-Planned Orders
  3. PPRD’s (MRP Planned Orders, optionally)
